ABOUT LAURA
Laura Medicus is the founder and principal designer of Laura Medicus Interiors, a Denver-based residential interior design studio specializing in the renovation of older and historic homes.
Laura has loved old homes throughout her career and believes that good renovation is as much about knowing what to preserve as it is about knowing what to change. Her work combines a respect for a home's architecture and history with the realities of modern life—creating interiors that feel collected, personal and appropriate to the house rather than newly “done.”
Laura holds an MFA in Interior Design from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Art from Towson University. She began her career in New York City, working for both a large architecture and design firm and a boutique luxury residential design company before moving to Colorado in 2005. She founded Laura Medicus Interiors in Denver in 2011.
Her love of art and design—and particularly the way homes reflect the personalities and stories of the people who live in them—continues to shape her work today.
OLD HOMES, NEW LIFE
I believe in using materials that will last for the next generation, reusing and saving what we can, and honoring the spirit of an old home while making it functional and comfortable for the people who live there now. What we do to these houses today can have a positive impact on the next 100 years.
A major renovation comes with hundreds of decisions. I help my clients navigate those decisions—from cabinetry, countertops, tile and flooring to lighting, plumbing, hardware, paint, wallpaper and furnishings—while keeping the larger vision for the home in mind. I work closely with homeowners, architects and general contractors throughout the process and am always happy to help assemble the right team.
OUR APPROACH
Our goal is to create livable, classic interiors with charm—homes that honor their architecture, neighborhood and inhabitants while feeling comfortable, personal and distinctly their own.
Our process is closely connected to our clients. We listen. We consider the architecture, environment, history and personalities of the people who will live there. And while remodeling can be complicated, we believe the design process should also be accessible, collaborative and fun.

When I'm not working on client projects, I write The Colorado Nest, where I share thoughts on interiors, old homes, renovation and design in Colorado.
